Spain Youth Model United Nations (SYMUN) is a project co-organized between Common Action Forum (CAF) and the United Nations and International Law Association (ANUDI) at Carlos III University of Madrid. Both ANUDI and CAF strongly believe in empowering young students and bringing them closer to public institutions, fostering their critical thinking, promoting sustainable values and enhancing dialogue and cooperation as means to deal with contemporary challenges.
Both organizations have broad experience in organizing international conferences and participating in UN simulations all around the World. For this reason, they believe that it is the perfect moment to use this expertise to bring together around 400 young and bright high school students from very different backgrounds and allow them to debate about international relations in a fully multicultural environment. This way, SYMUN aims to be a platform for promoting the knowledge and understanding of today’s most prominent global problems.
CAF (Common Action Forum)
Common Action Forum is an international non-profit foundation based in Madrid, Spain, designed to establish independent platforms of cooperation, research, innovation and advisory in order to shape alternative solutions and empower global citizens to address socio-political issues and economic inequalities of our time.
Presided over by Wadah Khanfar – the former Director General of Al Jazeera –, and working as a worldwide network, CAF advocates for the exchange of experiences and collective design of global strategies by bringing together prominent and emerging experts from diverse backgrounds including academia, politics, media, civil society and culture. To reach active solutions, CAF supports dialogue, mediation, research and projects committed to justice and alternative frameworks positioned to deal with contemporary challenges. In pursuing this endeavour, an Advisory Board comprised of leaders across a spectrum of disciplines from all five continents supports CAF´s priorities and activities.
ANUDI (Asociación para las Naciones Unidas y el Derecho Internacional)
The United Nations and International Law Association (ANUDI) is a student-lead organization based at Carlos III University of Madrid that aims to promote the values of the United Nations and the International Community. In order to do so, ANUDI prepares teams participating in Model United Nations and Moots both at national and international level. Moreover, since 2011 the association organizes UC3MUN, which has established itself as the leading Model United Nations of our country by number of international participants, with more than 575 students from 35 different nationalities. All of this is complemented with conferences and debates that we hold throughout the academic year.
Since March 2017, ANUDI is an official member of the United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN-Youth), an organization aiming to promote the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) among the youth. To this extent, SYMUN will be the perfect platform to encourage the knowledge of the SDGs among high school students.
